Setting Up Your Dext Account: Costs vs Sales

This is part of our Getting Started with Dext series (Chapter 1 of the Dext tutorial hub):

  • Lesson 1: What Dext Is and Why a BAS Agent Recommends It
  • Lesson 2: Setting Up Your Dext Account: Costs vs Sales
  • Lesson 3: Choosing the Right Dext Plan for Your Business

Dext is organised into two main workspaces, and understanding the difference makes the rest of the setup much clearer.

1. The Costs workspace

This is where supplier bills and expense receipts are captured, extracted and published as bills or expenses.

2. The Sales workspace

This side handles sales invoices and related documents, useful if you want a similar automated capture process for income documents.

3. Connecting your accounting software

During setup, you connect Dext to Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, syncing your chart of accounts, suppliers and tax rates.

4. Inviting your team or bookkeeper

You can invite staff or your bookkeeper to submit documents without giving them full access to your accounting software itself.

Dext’s Help Centre has setup guides for both workspaces, and the official YouTube channel has walkthroughs: help.dext.com. Our registered BAS agents can help with initial setup.
