Once you have coded a document from a supplier correctly a couple of times, a supplier rule saves you repeating the same coding forever.

1. Creating a rule from a coded document

Once a document is coded correctly, you can save that treatment as a rule for future documents from the same supplier.

2. What a rule remembers

Rules can remember the expense category, tax rate, and even a tracking category, so future documents need barely any review.

3. Keeping rules up to date

If a supplier changes what they sell you, update the rule so it keeps coding correctly rather than silently miscoding new charges.

4. Still worth a periodic check

Automation is not a substitute for occasionally checking your expense reports make sense overall.

Dext’s Help Centre has detailed guidance on rules and automation: watch the official Dext tutorial. Our offsite bookkeeping team can set these up properly for you.
