Reviewing and Publishing Documents Safely in Dext

This is part of our Publishing to Your Accounting Software series (Chapter 4 of the Dext tutorial hub):

  • Lesson 1: Connecting Dext to Xero
  • Lesson 2: Connecting Dext to QuickBooks Online
  • Lesson 3: Connecting Dext to MYOB
  • Lesson 4: Reviewing and Publishing Documents Safely in Dext
  • Lesson 5: Setting the Right GST Codes Before Publishing from Dext

Publishing is the step that actually sends a coded document into your accounting software, so it is worth doing thoughtfully.

1. Reviewing before you publish

Check the supplier, amount, category and tax code look correct before sending it through.

2. Manual publish vs auto-publish

You can publish documents manually one at a time, or turn on auto-publish for trusted, well-established supplier rules.

3. When auto-publish is worth using

It works best for suppliers with a long history of consistent, correctly coded documents, rather than anything new or unusual.

4. Catching a mistake before it compounds

If something publishes incorrectly, it is worth fixing at the source rather than correcting it after the fact in your accounting software.

Dext’s official YouTube channel covers the review and publish process: watch the official Dext tutorial. Our remote bookkeeping team can help you decide what is safe to automate.
