Setting Up Your MYOB Business File

This is part of our Getting Started with MYOB Business series (Chapter 1 of the MYOB tutorial hub):

  • Lesson 1: Understanding MYOB Products and Choosing the Right One
  • Lesson 2: Setting Up Your MYOB Business File
  • Lesson 3: Building Your Chart of Accounts in MYOB
  • Lesson 4: Using MYOB Solo for Sole Traders and Freelancers

Getting your MYOB file set up correctly from day one means less cleanup later.

1. Enter your business details

Add your business name, ABN, and address, which flows through to your invoices and reports.

2. Confirm GST registration

Set your GST registration status and reporting frequency to match what you have registered with the ATO.

3. Set your financial year

Most Australian businesses run 1 July to 30 June, so confirm this matches before you start entering transactions.

4. Invite your BAS agent

MYOB allows you to invite your accountant or BAS agent to your file at no extra cost, which is worth doing from the start.

MYOB Academy has a full setup walkthrough: academy.myob.com. Our registered BAS agents can review your setup before you start using it for real transactions.
