Setting Up Bank Rules in MYOB
This is part of our Banking and Reconciliation series (Chapter 3 of the MYOB tutorial hub):
- Lesson 1: Connecting Bank Feeds in MYOB via Open Banking
- Lesson 2: Matching and Categorising Bank Transactions in MYOB
- Lesson 3: Setting Up Bank Rules in MYOB
- Lesson 4: How to Do Your Bank Reconciliation Correctly in MYOB
If you pay the same supplier regularly, a bank rule saves you from categorising the same transaction manually every time.
1. Create a rule from a transaction
Once you have categorised a transaction, you can save the same treatment as a rule for future occurrences.
2. Setting the matching conditions
Rules can match on payee name, amount, or description, so they only apply where intended.
3. Reviewing your rules over time
Check your rules every few months, since a supplier or arrangement changing can make an old rule miscode something new.
4. Not everything should be a rule
One-off or unusual transactions are usually safer coded manually rather than forced into an automated rule.
MYOB Academy covers setting up bank rules: watch the official MYOB tutorial. Our offsite bookkeeping team can set these up as part of your ongoing bookkeeping.
We'll only use it to follow up on your feedback \u2014 never for anything else.
