Setting Up and Lodging TPAR in Xero

This is part of our GST, BAS and Compliance Reporting series (Chapter 6 of the Xero tutorial hub):

  • Lesson 1: How Xero Tracks GST on Every Transaction
  • Lesson 2: Preparing Your Activity Statement in Xero
  • Lesson 3: Lodging Your BAS Directly from Xero
  • Lesson 4: Setting Up and Lodging TPAR in Xero

If you are in building, cleaning, courier, or a handful of other industries and pay contractors, you likely need to lodge a TPAR each year by 28 August.

1. Check whether you need to lodge

TPAR applies to specific industries paying contractors for services, so it is worth confirming your business is actually required to lodge before assuming you are not.

2. Marking contacts as reportable

In your contact settings, contractors that need to be included in TPAR are flagged so their payments are tracked through the year automatically.

3. Reviewing the TPAR report

Before lodging, check the contractor details and total payments look correct, including their ABN.

4. Lodging by 28 August

Xero can lodge the TPAR directly to the ATO once you have reviewed it, using the same connection as your other ATO lodgements.

Xero’s official YouTube channel and Xero Central both cover TPAR setup: watch the official Xero tutorial. Our registered BAS agents can confirm whether TPAR applies to you and lodge it on your behalf.
