Using the Xero Accounting App On the Job Site

This is part of our Getting Started with Xero series (Chapter 1 of the Xero tutorial hub):

  • Lesson 2: Setting Up Your Xero Organisation: A Step by Step Guide
  • Lesson 3: Building a Chart of Accounts for Your Trade or Service Business in Xero

If you are doing your invoicing from the office at the end of the month, the Xero mobile app can save you a lot of admin time.

1. What the app actually lets you do

The Xero Accounting app lets you create and send invoices, check your bank balance, and photograph receipts on the spot, straight from your phone.

2. Invoicing before you leave the job

Instead of waiting until end of month, you can send an invoice the moment a job is finished, while it is still fresh for the client. This alone can noticeably speed up how quickly you get paid.

3. Capturing receipts before they disappear

Snap a photo of a receipt the moment you get it, and it is attached to the right transaction instead of fading in the glovebox or getting lost entirely.

4. Getting set up

The app is free to download on iOS and Android and syncs with your existing Xero organisation, so there is nothing extra to set up beyond logging in.

For a walkthrough of the app in action, check Xero’s official YouTube channel: watch the official Xero tutorial. If invoicing speed is something you are still working on, our tradie bookkeeping service can help you tighten up the whole process.
