Key Reports Every Xero User Should Check Regularly

This is part of our Reports, Users and Add-ons series (Chapter 7 of the Xero tutorial hub):

  • Lesson 1: Key Reports Every Xero User Should Check Regularly
  • Lesson 2: Using Tracking Categories in Xero for Job Level Reporting
  • Lesson 3: Adding Users and Setting Permissions in Xero Safely
  • Lesson 4: Connecting Job Management Apps to Xero via the App Store

Xero can produce dozens of reports, but a handful are worth checking regularly rather than just at tax time.

1. Profit and Loss

Shows your income and expenses over a period, giving you a clear read on whether the business is actually making money.

2. Balance Sheet

A snapshot of what the business owns and owes at a point in time, useful for understanding overall financial position.

3. Cash Summary

Tracks cash in and out, which can tell a different story to profit and loss, especially if clients are slow to pay.

4. Aged Receivables

Shows exactly who owes you money and how overdue it is, which is worth checking weekly, not just when cash feels tight.

Xero’s official YouTube channel has walkthroughs of key reports: watch the official Xero tutorial. Our remote bookkeeping team can walk you through reading these properly.
